Having begun his footballing career at home, with Rijeka, he arrived in Serie A in 1999, playing for Venezia, scoring his first goal in the top flight against Parma.<\/p>\n
Between 2000 and 2006, Budan wore several jerseys, including that of Atalanta, where his eleven goals helped them to achieve promotion to Serie A.<\/p>\n
In 2006 he was sent on loan to Parma: His first season with the Crociati would be one of the most important of his career, in terms of consistency and performances.<\/p>\n
With 16 goals that season (13 in the league and three in the UEFA Cup), paired with Giuseppe Rossi and led by coach Claudio Ranieri, he dragged Parma to safety. His second season, albeit affected by injuries, ended with seven goals, which was enough to earn him a call-up to the Croatian squad for the 2008 European Championships.<\/p>\n
After a few years with Palermo and Cesena, he ended his playing career in 2013 at Atalanta, before embarking on a coaching career.<\/p>\n
